What materials are hammocks made of?
Our hammocks are handwoven with different materials, depending on use and preference:
- DuraSun®: a special outdoor fiber, soft like cotton but as strong as marine rope.
- OSO® Cotton: the finest cotton, valued for its softness, freshness, and durability.
- Crochet: also made of cotton, just as fine as OSO®, but with a unique detail — its threads are as thin as a human hair. Each hammock is a true work of art, since weaving can take up to two months.
- Traditional Cotton: versatile and comfortable, recommended for indoor use.
- Sisal or Henequén: ancestral fiber from the Yucatán Peninsula, highly resistant and decorative.
- Nylon: lightweight, water-resistant, and practical.
We can also weave in other materials upon special request.
Which hammock is the most comfortable?
Definitely cotton hammocks, especially those made with OSO® thread. They are:
- Flexible, perfectly adapting to the body.
- Breathable and thermal (they don’t feel too hot or too cold).
- Hypoallergenic and gentle on the skin.
How long does a DuraSun® hammock last outdoors?
A DuraSun® hammock can last more than 10 years outdoors. It is the best choice for long-term outdoor use, as it resists rain, sun, cold, and even snow without losing softness or strength.
How long does a nylon hammock last outdoors?
Nylon handles water very well, but direct sunlight is its enemy. Over time, exposure to sun will dry and fade the thread, eventually weakening it until it breaks.
How long does a cotton hammock last outdoors?
Cotton hammocks are designed for indoor use. They do not have a defined lifespan outdoors; we recommend storing them indoors after every use outside.
What is the difference in hammock sizes?
The length is standard: about 2.20 m (7.2 ft) in the resting area and approximately 4.20 m (13.8 ft) including the arms.
The difference lies in the width, which defines how many people the hammock is ideal for.

What is the difference between hammocks with spreader bars and those without?
- Hammock with spreader bars (American Hammock): decorative and stylish, large in size, perfect for terraces and patios.
- Hammock without spreader bars (Yucatecan Hammock): our specialty, designed by the Mayans over 3,000 years ago. Considered the most comfortable hammock in the world, recommended by chiropractors and orthopedists for people with back problems.
What is a Sisal or Henequén hammock?
Sisal comes from the henequén plant, native to Yucatán. It was the fiber used by the Mayans more than 3,000 years ago.
- These hammocks are highly resistant and decorative, though rougher and less comfortable than cotton or nylon.
